Your Lantau tour begins with a pick up from your Hong Kong hotel between 7:50am and 8:40am. You will be driven to the Hong Kong harbour, from where you will take an express ferry to Lantau Island.
Once you reach Lantau Island, you will head to the fishing village of Tai O and enjoy a boat ride around the traditional stilt houses on the waterfront. It is one of the rare fishing communities surviving in Hong Kong today. This village remarkably maintains the age-old tradition of constructing interconnected houses that float on the water.
Next, climb a number of steps to the Po Lin Monastery, also known as the ‘Buddhist Kingdom in the South.’ The monastery houses the Tian Tan Buddha, the tallest outdoor seated statue of Gautama Buddha. Visit the museum that lies underneath the Buddha statue that stores the alleged cremated remains of Gautama Buddha. The museum has three exhibition halls, named, ‘The Hall of Universe,’ ‘The Hall of Benevolent Merit’, and ‘The Hall of Remembrance.’
After touring the museum, enjoy a Buddhist vegetarian lunch at the monastery, exclusively prepared by the chefs with a taste similar to typical Chinese cuisine.
The last leg of the tour involves a cable car ride from Tung Chung to Ngong Ping village, offering you spectacular 360-degree panoramic views of the South China Sea, Hong Kong International Airport, North Lantau Country Park and the Giant Buddha. You have the option to choose a Crystal Cabin, equipped with a glass bottom to enhance your bird’s eye view as you see the rolling grassland sloped beneath your feet.
At the end of the tour, you will take a ferry back to Hong Kong Harbour and be dropped off at your hotel.
